Hello! Welcome to our kennel page. My husband Kevin and I (Megan) have lived in the serene countryside south of Ottawa for the past 22 years. Here we have raised four daughters, undertaken many self powered renovations, met some wonderful people and are now settling in to this almost empty nest..... Except we’ve filled it with dogs.
My love for dogs started later, when Kev and I bought our home. I grew up in a household dominated by the purring presence of feline overlords. Yes, cats ruled the roost in my early years, each one a fluffy tyrant with an agenda of their own. Litter boxes became the bane of my existence.
After buying our home, we brought home Blaine from the Aylmer SPCA, a husky/shepherd cross who waltzed into our lives like a four-legged whirlwind, bringing with him my newfound passion for canine companionship and cardio. Together, we conquered miles of pavement and he was the best boy with the kids growing up. Then we adopted in Tyson, our Siamese kitten (I know, I know….the litter boxes taught me nothing!).
Yet for 16 years, he never batted an eye when we brought in ANOTHER dog.
A few years later Maeve, our American Akita birthday gift for Kev (ask me someday about what we did to get her home) came to us through an amazing breeder just outside of Buffalo, NY. It was the four years of researching the breed and getting to know breeders that sparked an interest in breeding and showing for me. I wasn’t settled on a breed but that world certainly appealed to me. It wasn’t until 12 years later that I’d finally decide to fan those flames.
But what really hooked me came through a friend (and now amazing mentor)! She was looking for her first partner family and Blaine had just passed, leaving Maeve showing clear signs of true loneliness. Enter Thea (UKC Champion), our first Miniature American Shepherd and red tri beauty who livened up the house and became Maeve’s constant companion. I got to experience three litters with her and that definitely sold me. I’d found my heart breed and my heart dog. Two years later, Emmett, our red merle boy and Thea’s half-brother, followed on another partner family agreement, he’s a wonderfully quirky dude in a conformationally beautiful package. Both are now retired.
It took another almost five years but finally, we now have Miss Percy, our foundation bitch. I was looking for a specific female with qualities that could grow up to be what I was really wanting. She’s all I could have asked for and I’m excited to be able to combine her lines and conformation to build my kennel. I adore this lively little package. We are learning a lot together and I’m very much looking forward to what the future has in store. I will be forever grateful for the trust my mentor has in me and the encouragement and support she offers at a moments notice.
Now the adventure begins! I am excited for the future, proud to be a part of the Miniature American Shepherd community and looking forward to all the fun we’ll be getting up to.
